The Allan Barker Field was bought from the Church in two separate parcels  over a decade apart.

The first plot was purchased by the Parish Council in 1990, a sizeable proportion of the funding used was generously donated by local businessman  Mr Stanley Barker, in memory of his late brother, Allan, after whom the field is named.

The second, larger, plot was acquired in 2003, using a bequest to the Parish Council from the estate of the late Mr Cullumbine.

This means that the Council has acquired some 19 acres (7.7 HA) of recreational land for the Parish, largely without recourse to Parish funds.

The Sports Pavilion was opened in 1992, having been built with Lottery funding.

                                                                                                            field                                                                                                                                                                                                   The   Future

In 2005, the two fields were brought together by a landscaping and drainage scheme, paid for from Parish funds, with matched funding from East Lindsey District Council.  The dyke between St Michael’s School and the field is to be culverted, rendering easy and safe access to the field from the school’s own small playing field.

The field is now capable of supporting a range of sports, e.g.., rugby, hockey, cricket, etc., and two or three pitches will be available for use simultaneously.  The Sports Development Forum has access to funding to promote sports locally, and it is anticipated that this will encourage new clubs to form, to enjoy the enlarged facility.  This will require the pavilion to be extended, to cope with the increased demand.

The grounds will be landscaped, and facilities put in place, in order that all generations may derive benefit from using this amenity – whether they be playing a physical contact sport, or just enjoying a leisurely stroll in a pleasant setting.
